Is it better to book a Wine tour/visit with a rendezvous? Or is it better to have walk-ins?
Wine tourism has been key to several developments in present days, especially towards it’s ancilliary industries such as agriculture, hospitality, transport, natural and cultural. Yet, wineries and chateaux struggle to acquire sufficient footfall and exhaust business options except for exports overseas. Understandably as this seems to be the primary reason for people to buy and own wineries in France just to focus on international sales, yet many forget the basic principles associated towards marketing, sales and developing wine tourism in their own homeland. The major motivating factors that have been associated for wine tourism globally and in France are people seeking to visit vineyards, wineries, wine festivals and wine events which represnt the wine lifestlye. Similarly the experience provided by wineries through their tasting, cultural heritage, hospitality, education, tastings and cellar door sales or sales through the wineries ‘caveau’ adds to the demand in wine tourism.
What brings wine tourism demand?
In short the demand for wine torusim depends on a person’s motivations, perceptions, prior experiences and the most important one is expectations. The primary objective to be kept in mind by every chateau during a customers visit is the tasting and to purchase wine, while the secondary aspect would be to socializing, entertainment, learning about the wines and the wineries, travelling to unique rural winescape and finally to relax. These factors play a key role in creating demand and also creating re-visits.
What factors affect a wine tourists behaviour?
There are few basic factors we can consider already, as to what a wine tourist behaviour relies on, Ex: Passion for wine, wine enthusiast, traveller etc but the key factors that makes behavioural changes in a wine tourist are age, income, gender, education, cultural and regional differences, motivation and influences. It is important to keep in mind that only a few number of people make visits to wineries and chateaux individually, it is usually in groups or more than one person therefore creating influences.
So, do we have visits with a rendezvous? Or just have walk-in visits?
Wineries and chateaux always have their doors open for walkin guests and as nice as it is to have such visits, yet is important not to forget the importance of having a reservation or booking made in advance. Having a Cellar door sales or Caveau is always convient but if your winery or chateau is at location that lacks visibility, then is an absolute mismanagment of man power and space. But a simple booking prior to the visit could save ample time and resources than having to face the following concerns:
- The tour guide is at discomfort as they lack preparation mentally and physically to accomodate and handle walk-in guests.
- Rendezvous saves time and money also making it a better experience for the guests.
- Rendezvous helps the chateux make better propositons for the tour with better planning.
- Guests can be provided with an idea of what to expect from their visit so that every money spent is accounted and valued in return creates reputation for the chateau.
- Large group bookings and visits are handled easier through reservations.
It is not a complex thought to remember to make reservations in advance, it’s the same as booking a movie ticket or booking a hotel room. The sooner you book , the better the exprience!
