« I love wine but I don’t know anything about it »
How many times have I heard those words, usually said as a confession of weakness? It’s true I’ll rarely hear them in Bordeaux – which doesn’t necessarily mean the city is filled with fine wine connoisseurs – but I often do in Paris and elsewhere throughout France. Certainly, for many, the world of wine can be hard to grasp. Apart from talk of soil, vintages, appellations and the rest, there exists a very specific vocabulary which a neophyte might well think was some kind of code.
One can enjoy the riot of ‘taste sensations’ wine causes without needing to be an oenologist or wine buff! In the same way that one can appreciate a painting or piece of music without being a fanatic, it’s easy to understand just enough about the wine-making process to avoid having an inferiority complex about it.
Which is why, together with my friends at Wine Tour Booking, I hope to bring you a layman’s view of the world of wine. We aim to make this blog an informative source and meeting place for wine lovers, whatever their previous level of knowledge.
We hope we have piqued your curiosity enough to make you want to know more about our great passion for wine…in Bordeaux!
